Understanding Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) Therapy

Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) is a non-invasive therapy that uses low-level electrical currents to treat pain and various health conditions. This therapy, which is available in our intensive programs and as a separate therapy is a staple in everything that we do.
What Is Frequency Specific Microcurrent?
FSM utilizes electrical currents in the microampere range (millionths of an ampere) combined with specific frequencies to target various tissues and conditions. Unlike higher-intensity electrical stimulation therapies, FSM delivers current below the sensory threshold, meaning patients typically cannot feel the current during treatment.
Mechanism of Action
FSM operates on the principle that different tissues and conditions respond to specific electrical frequencies. The treatment typically uses two channels simultaneously:
-
Channel A delivers frequencies that correspond to particular conditions (such as inflammation or scar tissue)
-
Channel B delivers frequencies that target specific tissues (such as nerve, muscle, or fascia)
Research on microcurrent has shown that certain microamperage ranges (between 10-500 microamps) can increase ATP (adenosine triphosphate) production in cells. One study showed an increase in ATP production by up to 500% within this current range, with diminishing returns at higher levels.
Clinical Applications
We utilize Frequency Specific Microcurrent as a part of a comprehensive program for a variety of conditions including:
→ Nerve pain
→ Inflammation
→ Fibromyalgia
→ Shingles
→ Scar tissue
→ Chronic injuries
→ Autoimmune Conditions
→ Mold Toxicity
Practical Considerations
When considering FSM therapy, several factors may influence outcomes:
- Hydration: Practitioners note that adequate hydration appears necessary for effective treatment. Typically, patients are advised to drink at least one quart of water in the hour preceding treatment.
- Diagnosis: As with any targeted therapy, accurate diagnosis of the underlying condition is important for selecting appropriate treatment protocols.
- Post-treatment responses: Some patients report experiencing reactions similar to those following massage therapy, approximately 90 minutes after treatment.
FSM’s Role in Our Approach
Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) serves as one of the core components in our comprehensive treatment protocols. Integrating FSM into our clinical approach allows us to address certain physiological issues more efficiently than would be possible with conventional interventions alone.
Specifically, FSM enables us to work with targeted areas of the body in a manner that is:
-
Efficient: Frequency-specific protocols can often address tissues and conditions more directly than generalized approaches
-
Minimally invasive: As a non-pharmaceutical, non-surgical approach, FSM represents a low-risk intervention that can be applied before or alongside more intensive treatments
-
Complementary: FSM works well in conjunction with other therapeutic modalities, potentially enhancing overall treatment outcomes
